The WVCCC Preschool program is designed to meet each child’s unique, individual needs in a language-rich, multi-cultural setting with the focus on the development of the whole child in preparation for a successful transition to kindergarten. Problem-solving and child-initiated activities are promoted through the intentional and thoughtful planning of lessons based on Arizona’s Early Learning Standards and through the use of developmentally appropriate teaching and learning practices.

Each day, children have opportunities to actively engage in a variety of learning experiences designed to foster cognitive, social-emotional, and physical growth and development.  Educational experiences for preschool students are planned with the understanding that young children learn best in play-based environments, and WVCCC Preschool teachers create classrooms that provide children with opportunities to:

  • enhance communication skills
  • make choices and become actively involved in the learning process
  • develop creativity and a joy of learning
  • develop self-esteem, self-reliance, self-control, responsibility, and confidence
  • practice independence, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • develop fine and gross motor skills
  • engage in appropriate interactions with children and adults
  • exhibitconcern for others
  • celebrate cultural values, family backgrounds and individual heritage

The WVCCC preschool serves students identified as having special education needs, along with approximately 10-20 percent role model peers who participate on a tuition basis. The low student to adult ratio allows staff to employ teaching styles and approaches specific to each student’s unique needs.  Eligible students at WVCCC preschool may receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and vision services along with individualized education programming in the cognitive, adaptive, and social-emotional skills areas.  Curb-to-curb transportation is available to all preschool students on IEPs.  These children attend preschool three hours a day, four days a week in either the AM or PM session.    Tuition students may attend preschool full time, five days a week.
